The European Caravan began 9 years ago when Sehersijan Sait proposed to Madam Fortuna Vzw to do a project with his community, the Roma Community.
Luk Nys, artistic director of MadamFortuna went with him to his hometown of Skopje (Macedonia) and they traveled together through the Balkans and central Europe to make this documentary. The documentary was the start of what became later a great international project with various partners from the social and cultural fields.
“De Karavaan” in “de Roma”
Before the international story, The European Caravan first started with a national edition in Belgium between Antwerp (Madame fortuna), Gent (Bij de Vieze Gasten) and Brussels (Globe Aroma / Foyer). The 3 cities worked together on a commun set of traditional Balkan and Central European songs during a year and presented it at the at the legendary concert hall De Roma in Antwerp with over 40 musicians on stage.
Samuel Salam
On Saturday June 25, 2016 MadamFortuna played at Plazey – Feest in het park with the intercultural music project DE KARAVAAN. After the concert, the video clip “Samuel Salam” was showed for the first time on big screen. The clip was made by young KARAVAAN talent from Brussels; a diverse group of Roma and non Roma youngsters coming from Vormingscentrum Foyer and around. After the first presentation on Plazey, the young makers were guests on the third edition of SE LA FET (Globe Aroma).
The clip was initiated when the youngsters of Brussels, who participated already in the first edition of De Karavaan – wanted more than just making music. Jonas Mertens spoke to them about their acting talent and together they worked with Jordi and Finchi out a scenario for the song composed by @Nicolas Hauzeur (Kopanica). They were prepared for music recordings in the studio of JES Stadslabo in Brussels, and well accompanied by photographers and filmmakers Jordi Oliver and Fien Groffils in making the clip.
